What is this "sanity" you speak of?

Insane? I guess that's one word you could use to describe me. I intentionally keep myself crazy busy and still love to be social. So I end up doing something almost all the time. Take this coming up Monday for instance. This quarter I signed up for 3 intramurals here at UAF (Soccer, Broomball, and Basketball (for who knows what reason...)) and they all start on Monday. This means Monday night my evening goes:

Wind Symphony: 4:20-5:40
Calc III: 5:50 - 6:50
Dinner: 7-8
Basketball: 9-10
Soccer: 11-11:45
Broomball: 12 a.m. - 12:30 a.m.

Yeah. That is a busy night. But look on the bright side! I get to do team sports, stay in shape, stay social, and still end up with about 8 hours of sleep. And I do love team sports, especially the ones that I do with my friends. ESPECIALLY soccer and broomball. I've played soccer forever basically and I play the position of Sweeper because it is the adrenaline rush of quick sprints, full field awareness, constant command of the field, and the "last man standing" feeling. I love having that kind of responsibility, leadership, and ability to be a wall for my goalie. Plus soccer is one of those sports that is about 20 times as fun to play as it is to watch on television. And on defense, especially as last man standing, you can get away with.... stuff in the backfield when chances seem slim. It's quite entertaining :D But all legal! Because there is totally a difference between just hitting someone and hitting someone with enough finesse to make it look like a defensive stop. The second one is much more satisfying.

I guess that also influences my love of broomball as well. Playing hockey was a fun bout for me back in my early high school and middle school days, but after moving to Valdez it was impossible. There was no hockey there. Now that I'm here at UAF I'm playing broomball! Its if hockey and soccer had a sport baby. Its played on your feet, but in an ice rink. Instead of a hockey stick, its a funny shaped, almost lacrosse shaped, stick with a rubber end on it. Instead of a puck, its a semi-deflated size 1 soccer ball. Plus, for this sport I have taken on the role as goalie. We may not have the best team in terms of skill, but I'm quite sure that we have the best team name (This Plus 5 Bananas) and the most fun. And goalie is very fun! I can't really run on the ice like everyone else (I've spent way too long within the crease....) but quick reflexes seem to keep me alive and the ball out of our net. The intensity of those quick responses when someone is crashing down on the net is a feeling unlike most others.

I'm sure one day I may settle down and become a little bit more relaxed with my time, but for now this isn't such a bad way to spend a semester at college. GAME DAY IS TOMORROW!
